Here’s a song for anyone craving upbeat, sun-soaked indie-pop today. ‘The Crease’ from Birmingham-via-Bristol band Genuine Panama is an easy breezy pick-me-up and it’s exactly what we need to battle through all this doom-and-gloom rhetoric. Stretching over 3 minutes 48 seconds, the song takes its time, strolling through the cheerful brass bursts, shuffling drum work, surfy guitars and grooving bass. It’s such a refreshing take on the well-worn indie-pop genre thanks to those brass sections and bass solos, and yet it retains enough familiarity in the radio-ready lyrics and pop structures for us to feel instantly comfortable.
